The 70-180mm F/2.8 Di III VXD (model A056) is a fast standard telephoto lens designed for full-frame Sony mirrorless cameras. It stands out for its high image quality with a consistently large F/2.8 aperture and its compact body. At just 149mm long (70mm) and weighing just 810g, it is the lightest and most compact lens in its class1. Multiple special optical elements ensure excellent image performance from the center to the edges of the image. Autofocus is achieved using VXD (Voice-coil eXtreme-torque Drive) autofocus, newly developed by Tamron. The short focusing distance of 0.85m opens up new possibilities for photographic expression for the user. A special feature of the 70-180mm F/2.8 is the ability to focus on a subject at a distance of 70mm manually from a close distance of just 0.27m2. With this lightweight telephoto zoom lens, you can get closer to your subject in any situation - and reward yourself with a great shot!

Tamron's fastest autofocus motor to date

The VXD autofocus is a world premiere: it is the first linear focus motor developed by Tamron, delivering exceptional autofocus performance. Two VXD modules, operating in a floating system and controlled by electronic pulses, ensure fast and precise focusing for both near and far lenses. The new motor also guarantees improved AF tracking, for example when shooting sports. At the same time, the autofocus operates so quietly that you can shoot even in situations where complete silence is required. In short: when it matters, you can rely on the 70-180mm F/2.8 - whether you are shooting stills or movies.

Closest focusing distance of only 0.85 m

The 70-180mm F/2.8 has a minimum focusing distance of just 0.85m, regardless of the focal length selected. This is an exceptionally short fast telephoto zoom lens. At 180mm, the maximum image magnification is 1:4.6 - ideal for expressive close-ups.

Universal lenses with a single filter size

All available Tamron E-mount lenses have the same filter thread (ø 67 mm), so the same filters and lens caps can be used with all models. All lenses are equally compact and can be easily transported as a set.

Internal Focusing (IF) System

The lens length does not change when focusing, and the close focusing distance is significantly reduced throughout the entire focusing range.
