Wide ISO100 ~ 32000 sensitivity range
Despite the large number of sensor pixels, the sensitive design with back illumination, gapless on-chip lens and anti-reflective sealed glass allows the standard ISO range of IZO100 ~ 32000 to be expanded to ISO50 ~ 10240012.
Versatile shooting function "Pixel Shift"

Wide, fast, accurate AF tracking
The α1 features focal plane phase-detection AF that is sensitive, fast, and accurate. The 50.1 MP sensor and BIONZ XR processor provide 759 selectable phase detection points18, covering approximately 92% of the image.
New possibilities for moviemaking
Next-generation 8K19 30p recording
The α1's new image sensor and BIONZ XR processor enable realistic 8K (7680 × 4320) 30p recording. Four times the resolution of 4K with Real-time Tracking and Real-Time Eye AF. 8K footage is also ideal for flexible 4K editing.
4K movies shot at a high frame rate of 120 fps20
The α1 supports internal 4K movie recording at high frame rates of up to 120 fps and enables smooth, expressive playback in up to 5x slow motion21. 10-bit 4:2:2 Chroma subsampling encoding technology can be used with Long-GOP or Intra (All-I)22 image compression for exceptional image quality, while the new image sensor and BIONZ XR processor reduce image distortion.
4K with full pixel scanning, no quantization and 5.8K oversampling
When using Super 35 mode, approx. 2.3x. The data required for QFHD 4K quality is obtained using full-frame scanning without quantization, so images are beautiful and rich in detail.

16-bit RAW output
The α1 can output 16-bit RAW to an external recorder via HDMI, improving the versatility of your footage. RAW output via HDMI can be used for 4K recording to internal card storage.
Digital Audio Interface for High-Quality Audio
The Digital Audio Interface provides exceptional sound quality with compatible audio devices connected via the Multi Interface Shoe. Pure digital audio is fed directly into the camera.
Heat dissipation design for long-term shooting
A new heat dissipation design prevents the camera from overheating during continuous shooting, while maintaining the same body size. Continuous recording of 8K/30p or 4K/60p images for up to 30 minutes24.
Cinematic look with S-Cinetone
The α1 features the same S-Cinetone color matrix as the FX9, FX6 and other Cinema Line cine cameras, which is used to create beautiful colors and skin tones. Responding to the growing demand for more expressive depth, S-Cinetone can produce natural midtones essential for healthy-looking skin tones, as well as soft colors and stunning highlights.
Image stabilization with Active mode25
Handheld shooting is particularly effective with the new Active Mode for movie shooting, featuring 5-axis optical image stabilization. The BIONZ XR image processing engine applies optimal compensation in real time for all formats, including 4K26. All this is achieved while maintaining the compact size and mobility of the α system.
Control, reliability
High-performance electronic viewfinder
The 9.44 million-dot (approx.) OLED viewfinder in the α1 is currently the highest resolution on the market27. It features 0.90x magnification28 with a 41° field of view (FOV) for a clear, wide view and an updated design with a 25mm-high eyepiece29. 240 fps refresh rate with UXGA FOV - another innovation27 for clear, fast imaging.
Panoramic shots with electronic shutter30
Using the electronic shutter at slow speeds can cause screen response to be impaired, making it difficult to track fast-moving subjects. To improve screen response and shoot panoramic shots, enable the [Low Frame Rate Limit] function.
Seamlessly switch between full-frame and APS-C formats
M and S size images31 have the same pixel count and AF area in full-frame and APS-C modes, so you can seamlessly switch between full-frame [M:21MP] and APS-C [M:21MP] formats when shooting the same scene.

Different settings for photos and movies
A subset of settings now changes based on the selected mode. This is ideal when you want to use different aperture, shutter speed and other settings for photos and movies32.

Assigning custom functions
164 functions can be assigned to 17 custom keys and dials on the front and back of the camera. Separate feature sets can be assigned to stills, movies and playback.

Highly reliable mechanical shutter
Minimal shutter vibration enables continuous shooting at 10 fps. The new shutter element with advanced processor, stopper and shock absorbers is rated for over 500,000 cycles33.
Dual CFexpress Type A slots
The dual media slot supports UHS-I and UHS-II SDXC/SDHC cards and the new CFexpress Type A cards, for even higher overall capacity and read/write speeds.
Powerful Z-series battery for longer shooting
Shoot up to 530 photos on a single charge. Components and power circuits are also designed to optimize power usage. Maximize power by using two Z batteries in the VG-C4EM mount.

The α1 features not only compressed and uncompressed RAW, but also efficient lossless compression.
