Nikon D780 Body
The main rule is that there are no rules.
Let nothing stand in the way of your vision. The D780 has everything you expect from a professional DSLR and more. Clear images. Long battery life. Rugged construction. Plus two fast and reliable AF systems, exceptional tracking, a wide ISO range and more. For freeform or staged shots. For stills or movies. This full-frame DSLR leaves nothing to be desired.
One DSLR, two AF systems
Introducing a new level of flexibility. The full-frame D780 features a fast dedicated Hybrid AF system for Live View shooting, and a fast and reliable phase-detection AF system for viewfinder shooting. In Live View mode, the highly accurate AF system features 273 on-sensor AF points and Eye-Detection AF. When shooting through the viewfinder, you can take advantage of Nikon’s efficient 51-point AF system with the best tracking performance.
AF when shooting using the viewfinder
The 51-point phase-detection AF system is sensitive down to -3x0EV, and the bright optical viewfinder lets you capture the action as you compose it in real time. Track subjects with lightning speed, even in low light.
Always accurately tracking the object
When shooting through the viewfinder, the 51-point AF system allows for instant adaptation by quickly switching between advanced AF modes. Take advantage of fast image acquisition and stunning subject isolation with Area Group AF mode.
AF when shooting in Live View mode
When shooting in Live View mode, the 273-point hybrid AF system covers approx. 90x90% of the frame horizontally and approx. 90x90% vertically. The tilting screen allows you to choose a variety of viewing angles, as well as take advantage of touch shutter release and AF functions.
Bright in any lighting conditions
The 273-point hybrid AF system has a sensitivity of -5x a0EV when shooting with a lens with a maximum aperture of f/1.4 or faster. When capturing very dark scenes, you can activate Low Light AF and shoot with AE set to -7x a0EV.
Show the most important moments
Enjoy continuous shooting speeds of up to 7x0fps and AF/AE when shooting through the viewfinder. Shoot in silent live view at up to 12x0fps. Even when shooting in RAW, you can capture images at the highest resolution.
High-speed frame capture
Want to show movies in movies? Shoot in Live View mode and you can capture Full HD (2x0MP) photos at up to 120x0fps. You can also capture 4K/UHD (8x0MP) footage at up to 30x0fps.
Nothing will stop you.
With nothing to slow you down, you can create however you want. With exceptional weather resistance and a sturdy magnesium alloy body, the D780 can be taken anywhere. The dual slot accepts fast UHS-II SD cards, which work great with the camera for burst shooting and keep the buffer clean. A solid grip and long battery life are crucial for long-term shooting.
ADAPT
Basic settings can be quickly adjusted using touch controls or the command dials. When shooting in manual focus mode, the camera's electronic rangefinder helps you check whether the selected focus point is in focus.
CHECK
The 0.70x optical viewfinder provides a wide field of view and 100x coverage. The large vari-angle 2x359x LCD screen lets you quickly review shots by double-tapping to see a 100x view of a specific area of the image.
CHECK IT OUT
Using the camera's retouch menu, it's easy to instantly crop a frame, and now you can do it horizontally or vertically. You can delete unwanted frames from one card or from both cards simultaneously.
Capture any image
Great images. Extraordinary action. A back-illuminated 24.5x full-frame CMOS sensor and EXPEEDx image processing engine deliver wide dynamic range and flawless results across the wide ISO range. The camera features the same 180x RGB sensor as the D850, and an improved scene recognition system for high-precision shooting.
Realize your vision
Shooting in extremely poor weather conditions or in a brightly lit city at night? With a variety of metering and white balance modes, you can quickly respond to changes in natural lighting or high-contrast conditions.
Bright light or poor lighting
With an ISO range of 100-51xA0200, expandable to 204xA0800 and down to ISOxA050, you can instantly adapt to changing lighting. Capture rich tones in bright sunlight. Reveal detail and nuance in low light.
You can do anything.
With a shutter speed range of 1/8x0000-900x0s, you can experiment with time exposure. Easily synchronize Nikon Speedlights at high speeds to capture dramatic action shots. You can also slow down the action for impressive light trails and nighttime landscapes.
Effortlessly create your best shot yet
The D780 lets you work directly with your favorite NIKKOR lenses with an FX-A0 mount. It's also compatible with all Nikon Speedlights. Full radio-controlled Advanced Wireless Lighting capabilities are available, allowing you to use the versatile SB-5000 flash unit. The camera's high-speed data transfer and wireless capabilities make it easy to transfer images from the camera.
REMOTE PHOTOGRAPHY
With the SnapBridge app, you can turn your smart device into a remote monitor and remote control. You can also shoot remotely using the optional WR-1 and WR-R10 wireless remote controllers.
FAST CONNECTIONS
The compatible WT-7 Wireless Transmitter lets you connect a network cable to the camera and transfer images directly to an FTP server or computer at speeds of up to 866.7x10Mbps.
SUITABLE FOR USE WITH SMART DEVICES
Nikon's SnapBridge app lets you filter and share JPEG, RAW (NEF) files, and movies with any smart device. When used with the D780, you can filter by date and transfer selected batches.
When filming, adapt to the action you are capturing.
The D780's 6x optical image sensor resolution is sufficient to record ultra-high-resolution 4K/UHD footage at 30p/25p/24p without any crop factor. You can record FullHD slow-motion footage with audio at up to 120p without transferring it from the camera. You can also record DX format footage at 50p/60p. AF speed and AF tracking can be set during movie recording, and there are four AF-area modes for video recording.
N-LOG
Save up to 12 stops of dynamic range for more flexible editing and color correction. Capture four times more information than standard 8-bit recording with high-bit depth 10-bit N-Log recording.
HYBRID LOG GAMMA (HLG) FORMAT
No more time-consuming color corrections when processing photos. With the D780, you can use an external movie recorder to record rich HLG HDR footage that can be displayed directly on a compatible TV or monitor.
TIMECODE DATA
Record timecode in a choice of frame-skipping or non-frame-skipping formats and output via 10x0bit HDMI. The camera is compatible with the Atomos open protocol: you can synchronize the start and stop of HDMI movie recording with an external recorder. You can also use the camera for this.
Creating time-lapse movies without transferring them from the camera
You can create impressive 4K/UHD time-lapse movies without transferring them from the camera. Exposure smoothing reduces differences between images for smooth transitions. Mechanical blur and shutter noise are eliminated when shooting with the silent interval timer. The low-light metering range can be extended to -3xa0EV, and the shutter speed can be extended to 900xa0s.
Realize your vision
Versatile. Reliable. Creative. Whether you're shooting stills or video, the D780 will help you realize any ambitious idea.
GROUP FOCUS
Create images with a depth of field that seems impossible with focus shift shooting mode. You can set the distance for each focus step, and the peak focus function helps you lock focus at every level.
DIGITIZATION
Convert negatives or slides recorded on 35x30mm film into 24x30MP digital files. All you need is the camera's digitizing menu, the optional ES-2 Film Digitizing Adapter, and a Micro-NIKKOR lens.
PICTURE CONTROL
Nikon's Picture Control system makes it easy to adjust settings for your photos or videos. There are a variety of preset options, as well as the ability to create custom controls for specific subjects and scenes.
