The ultra-wide-angle prime has a 16.5mm equivalent focal length, making it a versatile choice for a variety of subjects from architecture to landscapes, as well as handheld videography needs.
The bright f/1.8 maximum aperture is ideal for shallow depth of field photography, and is also great in low light.
The optical design delivers impressive sharpness across the frame and also contributes to high clarity by reducing color fringing and various aberrations.
A rounded 7-blade diaphragm ensures smooth and natural bokeh quality.

Refined focusing performance

The Linear Motor system uses two separate motors to ensure fast, quiet and precise autofocus and tracking. This design also contributes to a more natural, intuitive linear response manual focus control, and there is an AF/MF switch on the lens barrel for quick focus mode switching.

The internal focus design ensures faster focusing and maintains a constant overall lens length during operation.

Suitable for close-up photography, the minimum focusing distance is 4.7 inches with a maximum magnification of 0.2x when using manual focus, or 5.9 inches with 0.13x magnification when using autofocus.
Smooth Motion Optics (SMO) suppresses focus breathing to help maintain compositional accuracy when changing focus. This lens is also compatible with the Breath Compensation function on select Alpha cameras.
