The prime lens, with a focal length of about 50 mm and a sharpness of F1,4, offers an angle of view very similar to human vision. The photographer can use the shallow depth of field with a wide aperture to take stunning portraits and tabletop still lifes. Or he or she can stop down the aperture to create a greater depth of field and shoot landscapes or snapshots. In this way, standard lenses allow photographers to enjoy many basic photographic techniques, which is why they have been a favorite for decades.
