A high-performance telephoto zoom lens for FX-format SLRs.
With a wide 80-400mm focal range and advanced optical design, this lens can be used to capture a wide range of subjects, such as wildlife, landscapes and sports.
Nikon Vibration Reduction allows the shutter to be shot four stops slower, so handheld images are clear at all focal lengths. Four ED (Extra-low Dispersion) and one Super ED glass element correct chromatic aberration and optical color defects that occur at longer focal lengths.

• Nanometer crystal coating: significantly less ghosting and flare, even in backlight conditions.


• Vibration Reduction (VR) system: Standard, Active and Tripod modes. The effects of camera shake are reduced and the shutter speed can be reduced by four stops.


• Silent Wave engine (SWM): fast, quiet and accurate autofocus.


• Three focus modes: A/M (autofocus with manual override, AF priority), M/A (autofocus with manual override, manual focus priority), and M (manual focus).


• AF with teleconverter: AF works even when a 1.4x teleconverter is attached to a camera that supports f/8.


• Focus limit switch: FULL and ∞-6 m allow you to reduce focusing time when shooting at a certain distance.


• Lens barrel lock: (if the barrel is pushed to the 80 mm position) ensures that the barrel does not extend due to its own weight when the lens is not in use.


• Removable tripod support: added.
