With a popular 18-55mm focal length range (35mm equivalent: 27-82.5mm) and a maximum aperture of f/3,5-5,6, this lens is perfect for capturing everything from portraits to landscapes. It's also ideal for HD movies.

Smooth and fast autofocus: Nikon stepping motor

The new Nikon stepping motor focuses quickly and is perfect for video recording. Thanks to the new stepping motor, this lens focuses more quietly and is even faster than its predecessor. For stills, you can zoom in on subjects instantly and with absolute precision. When shooting video, this motor allows you to switch between focus points almost silently.

Two aspherical lens elements reduce spherical aberration and other distortions, so you can enjoy high-resolution photos and movies with vivid colors and contrast, and clear details.

Vibration Reduction (VR)

Thanks to the highly effective Nikon vibration reduction, images will be sharp even in low light. Designed to provide more stable handheld shooting, VR lets you choose a shutter speed up to four stops slower when shooting. Whether you’re shooting portraits, group shots or dramatic landscapes, this means you’ll always capture blur-free images. You can turn VR on or off in the camera menu.*

Simplified management

Switch between autofocus and manual focus and turn VR on or off using the camera menu.* There are no switches on the lens barrel itself, so it's impossible to accidentally change settings when taking a photo.

A portable lens for everyday use

This ultra-compact and lightweight lens is extremely portable. The lens body weighs just 205g, and when not in use, the lens can be retracted to a thickness of just 62.5mm, making it easy to take with you wherever you go.
