This technology allows you to use shutter speeds up to 3.5 stops slower than normal and prevents the effects of camera shake - a great help when shooting in low light or when zooming in from a distance. The Panorama Detection function automatically deactivates the horizontal or vertical stabilization function, helping to convey a sense of speed when shooting moving subjects.

STM technology

The EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS STM uses Stepping Motor (STM) technology, which delivers smooth and quiet continuous focusing with EOS devices during video recording, and precise autofocus during stills.
