GPS bike computer with maps
Why does the Edge 840 GPS computer offer dynamic performance tracking and insights to help you improve your performance? You do. So whether you’re a casual cyclist, a pro, a city biker, a mountain biker, or someone in between, the Edge 840 is ready to be your adventure partner.
Edge 840 goes beyond data collection to provide dynamic performance insights that can help you perform better. See how your body is doing in different environments with heat and altitude acclimation1 . Get ride notifications when it’s time to drink or eat. See if your last workout was balanced in terms of endurance, max. threshold and high-intensity effort. When paired with compatible Garmin sensors, Edge 840 even calculates a power curve—a new power-tracking metric that compares your riding effort to previous weeks and months. No matter where you’re training, you can sync structured workouts from TrainingPeaks and our online fitness community, Garmin Connect , right to your Edge. You can also view your upcoming weekly workouts and launch them at the right time, if needed.
Whether you’re training with your buddies or commuting, Edge 530 has you covered. It lets you share group messages and tracking so you can stay connected when you get separated from your group.2 Edge also has incident detection, which automatically sends your location to designated contacts if an incident is detected. To see more, pair Edge 530 with our Varia rearview radar and lights so you can see more and be seen. Plus, the new PIN-protected bike alarm will notify you on your smartphone if your bike starts moving while you’re powering up or taking a break.
Edge 840 comes preloaded with Garmin Cycle Maps, including turn-by-turn directions and navigation alerts that let you know when a turn is coming. Use the bright, touchscreen display to create new routes and courses right on your Edge. To help you ride like a local, your route is selected from the most popular roads and trails that other cyclists ride. Edge 840 is smart enough to guide you back to your route — or back to the start — if you get off track or decide to head home early.Route calculation speed is 2 times faster than previous models, so you'll spend more time driving than waiting for the route to be calculated.
When you need a change of scenery, Edge 840 is also your mountain bike riding guide. Get started by downloading the free Trailforks app from ourConnect IQstore, then unlock Trailforks data on your Edge device. Trailforks offers over 80 countries of bike trails with the best, most up-to-date information, including trail conditions, heat maps and more. When you stop in the middle of a trail, the new Forksight mode automatically shows you upcoming fork in the trail and gives you all the information you need to know where you are in the trail network. As you ride, Edge 840 tracks the stats you need with new mountain bike metrics like jump count, jump distance and time spent in the air. Other mountain bike features include Grit, which rates the difficulty of your ride using GPS, altimeter and accelerometer data, and Flow, which measures how smoothly you descend the trail so you can tackle the trail even better next time.
Ascent can become your secret weapon when you use Edge 840 with the new ClimbPro feature. It will automatically display the remaining elevation gain and grade as you navigate a planned route or course. This will show you how much climbing you have left to endure and help you gauge your effort for the rest of your trip.
Pair a compatible Edge bike computer with a supported SHIMANO STEPS eBike system and get a dedicated eBike status screen, data fields, and support for system status and alert notifications. In addition to Edge metrics like time, distance, and speed, you can also view your assist level, gear position, battery life, and remaining range during your ride.
Only Garmin lets you customize your device with free apps, widgets, and data fields from the Connect IQ store. Apps like AccuWeather MinuteCast let you check the weather forecast so you can set the ideal time for your ride. And if you plan to ride with data from sites like Strava, Komoot, or Wikiloc, download those apps so you can import your favorite routes right to your Edge. Or, if you’re looking for a nearby coffee shop or bike shop, use the Yelp app to download their location and direct them directly to your Edge.
