Walnut chess set 50x50 cm (large) with Staunton chess pieces and 8.9 cm king. This unique wooden chess set consists of a variety of thoughtfully crafted products. The set includes a perfectly matched walnut aspen chessboard, crafted by skilled craftsmen in the Manopoulos workshop in Greece using the art of marquetry. The 8.9 cm high king is weighted. Our wooden chess collection is brought to life by carefully selected wood veneers, traditional design and exceptional craftsmanship using the art of marquetry. Staunton chess pieces - the ones we know and love, the ones we simply think of as chess pieces. These classic chess pieces are named after Howard Staunton, who was considered one of the world's greatest players. The horse, the most complex and distinctive piece in any chess set, is a realistically carved horse's head. Staunton's rider was likely inspired by the sculpture on the east pediment of the Parthenon.
