Nikon Speedlight SB-5000

Get the lighting right with the SB-5000 - our first radio-controlled Speedlight.

Fast, reliable and versatile, the SB-5000 flash provides unrivaled lighting in the field and in the studio. With a range of 30 m, radio signals allow you to use complex flash setups on and off the camera - now you can work even in environments where the field of view is blocked by something or the optical signal may be weaker due to bright sunlight. Thanks to the new built-in cooling system, more than 100 quick shots can be captured at full power. And for photographers who cannot miss a moment of coherent storytelling, the lightweight, compact SB-5000 flash benefits from neat controls that allow you to control the flash intuitively.

Professional Speedlight for unparalleled lighting

Designed to meet the needs of professionals working in the field and in the studio, the SB-5000 is an i-TTL Speedlight compatible with FX and DX-format DSLRs. This Speedlight operates as a hot shoe-mounted flash unit, wireless commander or remote unit, and is part of the Nikon Creative Lighting System (CLS). It is the first Nikon Speedlight to be controlled wirelessly, i.e. by radio waves, eliminating the need for a direct line of sight between the master and slave flash units, increasing reliability when shooting in bright sunlight. When shooting at high speeds, the Nikon's new integrated cooling system increases the number of consecutive shots and ensures that there are no unnecessary interruptions. Other features include a guide number of 34.5 and a wide 24-200mm FX-format zoom range (14mm with the diffuser). Simplified controls and menus make it easy to use, while the compact, lightweight design allows for convenient use when attached to the camera. Three light patterns allow for full adjustment of flash coverage to suit the shooting environment. A built-in diffuser and white card, as well as an included diffuser dome, combine with Nikon's optional color filters to further expand your creative possibilities.

Control in challenging situations: radio-controlled advanced wireless lighting control

Designed for use in challenging shooting situations, the SB-5000 fully supports the new Nikon Creative Lighting System (CLS) radio control feature. You can now fire single or multiple flashes using the SB-5000 and WR-R10 wireless remote controllers. The SB-5000 is flexible enough to handle long-range lighting challenges, allowing you to create and control almost any flash setup, including complex multi-flash arrangements. When used with the WR-R10 wireless remote controller, groups of up to six SB-5000 units are possible. Optical control is also fully supported, meaning other Speedlights are suitable for multi-flash setups.

Professional Speedlight that doesn't get hot even after many shots

From the red carpet to the runway, the SB-5000 is built to withstand the pressure of the moment. To improve performance when shooting fast, the SB-5000 features the new Nikon Speedlight Cooling System - the world's* best internal temperature control system for a compact mount. This fast and reliable flash achieves an impressive 120 flashes at 5-second intervals, or 84 flashes at 3-second intervals. With the flash firing at full power, over 100 rapid bursts can be captured. The system suppresses heat build-up in the flash head to prevent it from overheating - heat protection has never been better.

* As of September 1, 2015, the SB-5000 has the world's best built-in cooling system for compact flash units.

Seamless integration with the acclaimed Nikon Creative Lighting System (CLS)

The SB-5000 is based on the Nikon i-TTL (intelligent Through-The-Lens) flash control, which allows Nikon Speedlights to share important exposure information with a CLS-compatible DSLR. The SB-5000 can be controlled via radio waves as part of an Advanced Wireless Lighting setup, or conventionally using an optical field controller. One of the performance improvements is Unified Flash Control, which provides an additional level of system control. You can now operate the SB-5000 or change its settings from the camera menu or from a computer running Camera Control Pro 2, while the kai is attached to the camera body.

Compact design, neat operation

Lighter than its predecessors and more intuitive to use, the SB-5000 flash has been redesigned with convenience in mind. You'll notice the difference as soon as you put the SB-5000 on your camera or put it in your travel bag - the compact flash body weighs just 420g. The neat control panel displays a wealth of easy-to-read information. The rotary multi-selector and the "i" button allow you to quickly access frequently used or personalized functions - for example, pressing the "i" button immediately displays a list of basic flash settings for single-flash shooting or advanced wireless lighting control. As before, the SB-5000 flash head can be tilted down 7° or up to 90° and rotated horizontally 180° to the left or right.
