This UV filter blocks the invisible UV component of skylight, which can cause blurring and to which many color films react with a blue color. These filters should be called UV-blocking filters, since there are filters for technical purposes that transmit UV radiation and block all other wavelengths. Nevertheless, the shorthand "UV filter" has become established among photographers. UV filters are ideal for photography at high altitudes (mountains), by the sea and in regions where the oras air is very clean. The photos acquire a shine and disturbing blue tones are avoided. Since the glass is colorless, the color rendering does not change, except for an unwanted blue tint, and there is no need to increase the exposure. This makes the UV filter very suitable as a protection of the front lens element against dust, flying sand, sea water splashes and the like, and it can also be kept on the lens at all times. It is recommended for analog color and black-and-white as well as digital photography.
This filter uses the standard B+W F-Pro filter holder, made of brass. Compared to the previous standard holder introduced in 2001, the tapo F-Pro holder is slimmer. It can now be used with wide-angle lenses, including most 24mm focal lengths on full-frame bodies, without vignetting. Another advantage of the F-Pro holder is the modified support ring, which is no longer threaded from the front, but holds the filter glass from the back. When removing a filter or a lens hood that has been screwed too tightly onto the filter, the locking ring is no longer in danger of loosening.
NOTE: Diopters are mounted in an older mount due to the thickness of the glass.
B+W MRC (Multi-Resistant Coating) is not only an extremely effective multi-layer coating, but it is also harder than glass, therefore protecting filters from scratches (for example, when cleaning filters), and is also water and dirt repellent, making filter maintenance easier.
