Honeywell PTM7950 thin phase change thermal pad is designed for use between a processor or graphics chip and a cooler. It ensures efficient heat transfer, low contact thermal resistance and long-term cooling efficiency even under high thermal loads.
The thermal pad is made of a phase change material (Phase Change Material, PCM) developed by Honeywell, which is based on a polymer matrix with thermally conductive fillers. At room temperature, the material remains solid, so the pad is convenient to cut, apply and precisely position on the component. Upon reaching the operating temperature of approximately 45°C, the material softens, fills microscopic surface irregularities and forms a thin, continuous thermal contact layer, reducing contact thermal resistance.
The strong polymer structure helps the material remain in the contact zone. It does not tend to bulge out to the edges due to temperature fluctuations and repeated heating and cooling of the device. As a result, stable thermal resistance and constant cooling efficiency are maintained for a longer period of time.
The sheet-shaped thermal pad is convenient and clean to use: it does not need to be smeared or distributed like thermal paste, and the risk of an uneven layer and excess material is reduced.
The best heat transfer is achieved after several complete heating and cooling cycles, kai the phase change material finally adapts to the contact surfaces.
