Copal comes from the Aztec Nahuatl word (Copalli) and refers to a variety of resins extracted from trees in the Bursera family. Thousands of years ago, the Mayans and Aztecs of Mexico and Central America considered copal a sacred resin. The Mayans offered copal to the gods as one of their most valuable things, along with tobacco and cocoa. Today, copal is still used in shamanic ceremonies for energetic protection, sacrifice, cleansing and purification. It is a great incense for positive change.
