Blue spectrum refractive optical equipment
Canon has developed Blue Refractive (BR) optics to limit fringing in large diameter lenses. Specially developed optical materials correct tinting more effectively than other technologies such as fluorite, Ultra Low Dispersion (UD) or Super UD glass. The coloring of the edges is caused by chromatic aberration, a phenomenon where light of different colors is focused at different points. The BR optical materials used in the EF 35mm f/1.4L II USM limit this effect as much as possible. This allows other elements of the lens to be optimized, ensuring the highest quality sharpness, contrast and flare resistance.
