Blue spectrum refractive optical equipmentCanon has developed blue refractive (BR) optics to reduce fringes in large-diameter lenses. Flares are caused by chromatic aberration, a phenomenon where different colours of light are focused at different points. The BR optics used in the EF 35mm f/1.4L II USM minimise this effect.
