Fast aperture prime lensThe EF 24mm f/1.4L II USM has a large maximum aperture of f/1.4, making it ideal for handheld shooting in low light. Using such a large aperture limits depth of field even at such a short focal length. The annular aperture blades allow for smooth out-of-focus areas of the frame ('bokeh' effect).

Aspherical and UD elementsFor optimal optical performance, the lens employs two types of special elements: aspherical elements to correct spherical aberration, and 'Super UD' (extra-low dispersion) elements to eliminate chromatic aberration. This results in clear, high-contrast images that are free from distortion anywhere in the frame.
