FUJIFILM GFX 100S Body
Redefining medium format, the FUJIFILM GFX 100S pairs a super high-resolution 102MP sensor with an impressively compact and portable mirrorless body design. This camera, which meets both stills and video needs, is further enhanced with a durable build, in-body image stabilization, and responsive autofocus to make the camera more accessible and adaptable to a variety of shooting needs.
The GFX 100S is powered by a 102MP 44 x 33mm BSI CMOS sensor, offering the ultra-high resolution photographers crave and impressive 4K video recording capabilities. The sensor is paired with the X-Processor 4 to output 16-bit raw images with wide dynamic range, low noise and sensitivity to ISO 12800, while the sensor's BSI design contributes to high clarity and accurate color reproduction. when working in a variety of lighting conditions. As for video, DCI and UHD 4K video can be recorded in 4:2:0 10-bit internally, 4:2:2 10-bit via HDMI or raw 12-bit if recording externally, and F-log gamma. The setting can also be used for more advanced color grading in post-production. In addition to high-resolution shooting, the unique sensor design also includes a sophisticated hybrid AF system that has 425 selectable phase-detection points covering almost the entire frame, helping to set precise face and eye detection modes.
The balanced, stunning sensor design is extremely compact, opening up a host of new working scenarios for this high-resolution platform. The GFX 100S's sleek and lightweight portability is supported by the optional in-body image stabilization, which compensates for up to 6 stops of camera shake for better handheld shooting. Conversely, this stabilization system also allows for the creation of 400MP files using 'Pixel Shift Multi-Shot' mode for subjects with extreme detail. The sleek form is also complemented by a fixed 3.69m-dot EVF for sharp, eye-level viewing, and a rear 3.2-inch touchscreen LCD with a three-way tilting design.
102MP BSI CMOS sensor and X Processor 4
The GFX 100S, using a large and ultra-high resolution 102MP 43.8 x 32.9mm BSI CMOS sensor and X-Processor 4, can deliver 16-bit images with wide dynamic range and a wide sensitivity range of ISO 100-12800. can be expanded to ISO 50-102400. The large size of each pixel allows for more efficient light collection, smoother transitions in tones and colors to create a characteristic three-dimensional 'medium format image'. In addition to the standard 4:3, a variety of traditional medium and large format aspect ratios can be used, including 1:1, 65:24, 5:4, 7:6, 3:2., and 16:9. The image processor and sensor also give the system versatility and allow continuous shooting at up to 5fps or recording DCI and UHD 4K30 video.
UHD and DCI 4K video recording
The GFX 100S uses a large sensor not only for stills, but also offers a range of video capabilities, including internal UHD and DCI 4K30p video recording at 4:2:0 10-bit, as well as 4K30p 4:2:2 10-bit via HDMI output, both at up to 400Mbps, and simultaneous external and internal recording. If you're working with the Atomos Ninja V, UHD 4K30p raw 12-bit output is also possible using the Apple ProRes RAW format. The speed of the quad-processor X-Processor 4 provides a significant benefit to overall video performance, allowing for fast readout during 4K video recording, which helps reduce shutter noise when filming moving subjects. In addition to supporting 10-bit color depth, the GFX 100 also features an F-Log gamma setting, which provides a flat image that can be used in advanced color grading software during editing. This maximizes the available dynamic range in complex scenes, and allows for image adjustments to enhance highlights, shadow tones, colors, and brightness. HLG recording is also supported for HDR applications, and F-Log, HLG, and Film Simulations can be used simultaneously with raw external output. The camera also features a 3.5mm microphone and 3.5mm headphone jacks for more advanced audio solutions.
Sensor-shift image stabilization
Built-in 5-axis sensor-shift image stabilization helps reduce the appearance of camera shake for better handheld shooting. This system works with any lens, including non-stabilized ones, but with OIS-enabled lenses, shake is reduced by up to approximately 6 stops.
Body design
The magnesium alloy body construction is lightweight and durable, and the camera system is weather-sealed to resist moisture and dust, as well as being freeze-proof down to 14°F for use in harsh conditions.
The fixed 3.69m-dot OLED electronic viewfinder is designed for high-resolution 0.77x magnification at eye level.
A 3.2-inch, 2.36m-dot touchscreen LCD is also available for image playback, menu navigation, and live view shooting. This LCD features a unique three-way tilt design that moves up and down for high- and low-angle shooting. It also tilts to the side for easier vertical shooting when live view is displayed.
A single NP-W235 rechargeable lithium-ion battery is rated for approximately 460 shots per charge.
There are two UHS-II SD memory card slots and allow you to save images sequentially, create backups, or sort to separate JPEG and raw files.
The FUJIFILM G lens mount features a short focal length of just 26.7mm to make it easier to fit lenses and reduce the back focus distance to better prevent vignetting and promote edge-to-edge sharpness when using GF series lenses.
A 1.8-inch secondary LCD screen located on the top panel can be used to quickly view shooting settings and exposure data.
The exposure mode dial on the top panel also has six custom positions, allowing you to quickly switch between pre-configured exposure settings.
Built-in Bluetooth 4.2 low energy and Wi-Fi allow you to wirelessly share images to a mobile device or use the device to remotely control the camera.
Hybrid autofocus system
The sensor design also features an expanded phase-detection autofocus system, with 425 selectable points covering almost the entire sensor area. This AF system delivers fast and accurate focusing and low-light sensitivity down to -5.5 EV. Complementing the imaging and focusing capabilities is the updated X-Processor 4, which delivers fast focus response for subject tracking, as well as support for face and eye-detection AF in AF-C mode and movie shooting.
Other camera features
Film simulation modes allow you to recreate the look and feel of several FUJIFILM film types, including the newly introduced Nostalgic Neg. effect, along with Provia, Velvia, Astia, Classic Chrome, Classic Neg., Pro Neg. Hi, Pro Neg. Standard, Eterna, Eterna Bleach Bypass, Acros, Monochrome and Sepia. In addition, grain effects can be adjusted, as well as the Classic Chrome effect, to fine-tune the look of your images.
Pixel-Shift Multi-Shot mode can create massive, 400MP images by combining 16 raw images using FUJIFILM's Pixel Shift Combiner software, which can then be output as a DNG file for further processing using popular editing software.
Interval shooting is possible for up to 999 consecutive shots with a 1-second to 24-hour delay between exposures, as well as a shutter delay of up to 24 hours.
Multiple exposure mode allows you to shoot two consecutive, overlaid shots, and the first shot will be displayed on the rear LCD screen to help you align the second exposure.
A variety of file formats are available to suit your workflow needs, including uncompressed and compressed raw file types; Super Fine, Fine and Normal JPEG settings; and TIFF files can be output using in-camera raw file creation.
