Wide AF area, ultra-fast AF and stable subject tracking

Densely spaced focus points cover 84% of the frame, and the Fast Hybrid AF system combines phase-detection AF and contrast-detection AF to achieve the world's fastest focusing speed of 0.02 s2. When subjects move, AF points arranged around them are activated to track them precisely.

Fast continuous shooting with AF/AE at up to 11 fps

Shoot at up to 11 fps3 with low display lag and 8 fps3 with Live View burst mode for up to 1164 JPEG (standard) images at a time. Settings are displayed in the electronic viewfinder, with real-time image display, improving the capture of action scenes.

Silent continuous shooting won't disturb your peace

When absolute silence is required, silent shooting without a shutter sound is possible at up to 8fps5, even in AF-C mode. Combined with Eye Detection AF or Real-time Tracking, you can expand your shooting possibilities.

Fast F2.8 APS-C standard zoom

Sony's first 16-55mm (24-82.5mm full-frame equivalent) APS-C zoom lens with a constant F2.8 aperture is compact and offers G-series-level performance. The new optical design delivers excellent resolution from corner to corner, as well as bokeh. The lens is compact, lightweight and suitable for a wide range of subjects.

High resolution throughout the zoom range, even at F2.8

Two AA (advanced aspherical) and two aspherical elements suppress aberration, giving the G Lens excellent resolution from corner to corner, while 3 ED (extra-low dispersion) glass elements reduce color fringing. Sony's original Nano Particle AR Coating resists flare and ghosting for sharp contrast. Precise control of spherical aberration and a 9-blade circular aperture enhance bokeh.

Compact, lightweight and bright

Thanks to its optimized optical and mechanical design, this compact, constant F2.8 16-55mm (24-82.5mm full-frame equivalent) lens weighs just 494 grams (17.5 oz.). This excellent lens is suitable for everything from portraits to everyday shots, and when combined with compact E-mount bodies, it provides a mobile, convenient system for a variety of photography styles.

XD linear motor delivers fast, precise AF and tracking

The APS-C lens features the same type of advanced XD (Extra Dynamic) linear motor that improves focusing in G Master series lenses. The XD linear motor takes full advantage of the camera body's speed potential, allowing it to focus and track even fast-moving subjects with high speed and precision. The motor also operates quietly, allowing videographers to take advantage of the constant F2.8 aperture.

Professional management and reliability

A customizable focus hold button, AF/MF mode switch, and linear response MF give you more control and precision to capture the right shot, even in challenging conditions.
